Five things to do with your headshot

You’re most likely aware that you should have a professional headshot taken but what can you do with that image once you have it?

Here are 5 things you can do with that investment in your image.

5. Zoom profile picture Let’s face it we live in a time that’s riddled with Zoom meetings. When you turn off your camera to take a bite of that energy bar or leave the room temporarily you’ll want your picture there and not just some text of whatever might have been put in that field (protip: use your name or company name, don’t try to be funny and put CarolBaskinsDidIt, and always check this if you’re using a family shared PC in case your kids changed it). This image should be cool and professional.

4. Email signature Having your face in your email signature line allows people to see you before they’ve even met you in person. It will connect them to the person instead of your name and it’ll build trust. This image should be friendly and warm. 3. LinkedIn Hands down *the* place for connecting with other businesses. Your picture on LinkedIn should be polished and show you as confident approachable. Do you own a real estate business? You’ll want your picture to show that you do, so you might want to get it done in front of a subdivision with a row of houses behind you, on a city street or on the balcony of high rise. This image should show what you do.

2. Marketing images Will you be creating ad copy for mailers, or adding your headshot to your business card? What about having it available for any donations you make, they’ll need that for posting in their donor list. Do you submit to magazines or newspaper columns? Think about creating environmental portraits, behind the scenes, client interaction and group shots of your team. You’ll need a lot of images here and you’ll need them in a variety of formats (landscape vs portrait.) Make sure to tell your photographer if you need some with ‘white space’ around your image for copy.

1. Social media You should have a post that includes your picture every week (at least) and you should change your profile picture quarterly. This is where you get to show off, so go big. Change it up, show highlights from your work life and personal lifestyle. Show your day/week/month in pictures. We’re at home more now and we are online killing time, make sure you’re showing up in their feed. Stay top of mind and continue to build that KLT (Know, Like and Trust).
